Review: Maybelline Pure Makeup

Claims:
50% water

Pros:
- Small container, portable
- Easy control of flow of liquid product
- Doesn't matter what applicator you use
- Good value
- More coverage than a tinted moisturizer, but lighter than your typical liquid foundation
- Decent color selection

Cons:
- Harder to blend, need to use a little at a time

Verdict:
4 out of 5
I recommend this as a summer makeup, but I would avoid wearing any foundation in the summer, wear tinted moisturizer or just powder

Written review:
To begin with, the packaging is very small and portable, and while it may look like it doesn't have as much product, it actually has just as much as any other liquid foundations out there (1 fl. oz). The container is smaller b/c not as much air goes in, and it's very easy to control how much comes in and out b/c you have to actually squeeze the tube hard to get some product out (unlike my Rimmel Lasting Finish foundation, I barely touch it and out comes a whole blob that I'll waste half of).

Now to the actual product, it claims to be 50% water, won't clog pores, gives flawless finish. The whole 50% water thing to me seems like a hoax, any liquid foundation has water as its primary ingredient, and ingredients are listed from the most to least, meaning that the 1st ingredient is what the product has most, and the amount of each ingredient decreases as the list goes down. Perhaps this has more water than the other liquid foundations, but it's definitely not more blendable or more hydrating, so it doesn't really matter. It's just slightly lighter on the skin, which brings me to my next point - texture. The product itself very creamy and smooth, but when applied to the skin, in order to blend in effortlessly, you must use a little bit at a time. A huge blob trying to blend out to your entire face usually doesn't work out too well, and I actually got edges when trying to blend that out - not attractive. I used a stippling brush, a foundation brush, and my hands, which is what it suggests to do, and none of it makes too much of a difference as long as you use a little bit at a time.

The value is very good, $6 for a 1 fl. oz foundation - cheaper than any other liquid foundation on the market, unless you count the Wet `n Wild or N.Y.C. ones, which aren't very good.

This is definitely a foundation and not a tinted moisturizer, but it's very light, kind of like the consistency of a thick foundation mixed w/ moisturizer, but still has decent coverage. Many people on http://www.makeupalley.com/product say that it makes their skin oily - it doesn't. My skin produces oil by itself anyway, so it's not the foundation's fault for not controlling the oil, since it's not designed to be that kind of product. As long as you set w/ translucent powder, you're good. But for oily-skinned girls like us, we might have to touch up and blot during the day.

The color selection is fairly wide, but those who are very fair or very dark may have problems finding their color.

Repurchase?
It's discontinued =/
