Review: E.L.F. $1 Eyelid Primer

Swatched on hand before blending

Left: With primer
Right: Bare skin
Applied with an eyeshadow brush

Pros
- Leaves a matte finish on the lid

Cons
- Has a greasy feel at first
- Doesn't help the color show up
- Strange odor (not strong, but just weird)
- Doesn't do much for anti-creasing

Verdict
Although this is very inexpensive, it doesn't really do anything for me. Granted, I have oily eyelids, and for eye primers it's a matter of how badly it creases rather than whether it creases at all. However, I felt like this eye primer lost some of the color that my skin alone would've held on to, as you might be able to see in the picture.

I tried using it as an undereye primer for concealer since it has that greasy feel to it and it's very sheer, but my undereye just ended up looking kind of cakey.

Would I recommend it?
It doesn't seem to do anything for my eyeshadows, nor prevent creasing... So you're probably better off with either the E.L.F. Mineral eyeshadow primer or the NYX HD eyeshadow base.

Price
$1 for 0.17 fl oz / 5 ml

Repurchase?
No.

If you love this primer, let me know - maybe I got a bad one? It has a really greasy feeling.

  1. I might be the summer weather, I have a tube of too faced shadow insurance and it tends to separate and get a little oily during the hotter months.

  2. @ Citrine Possibly, but I tried mixing this up with the wand and it was still greasy, plus it was greasy for the entire time I've had it (I've had this for over a year)
